Well, OK, I’m almost an indie-published paperback writer of fiction. That is, the mighty Zon’s KDP printing arm (formerly, Createspace) sent me a proofing copy along with two other fiction craft books I am ready to devour.
I spent three decades at the coalface of Information Technology and witnessed many leaps forward in the capabilities of end-user hardware/software and networked communications. And I think we are still in the early stages of what will be possible with still faster and more powerful technologies.
However, speaking as an indie writer, it’s an incredible feeling to hold in my hand a book that went from Ulysses to Vellum to the (as yet unpublished) Kindle store in a matter of days. I will go through the copy one more time, looking for any major howlers that would spoil the book for a buyer, and then press the publish button – before Xmas, all being well.
